A good crowd again attended this evening’s meeting and we were pleased to welcome our returning guests Leona and David. Glad to learn that you enjoyed your visit; do join us on October 3rd when Tom and Ken will be inducted during the Intermission. We also welcomed Matt, our Area 80 Governor, for his bi-annual club visit.
The theme of tonight’s meeting was “My Favourite Day of the Year” and was so well chaired by Margot, with lots of trivia on holidays and hey days around the world to celebrate days of the year. This topic was embraced by members and guests alike and all had strong and varied input!
Sue, as Grammarian, chose the word of the day: Riant (adj.) laughing, smiling or cheerful. Example: “Her riant nature made her popular with her club members” and was used quite frequently throughout the evening.
Troy, our Table Topics Master, had five excellent scenarios relating to the theme of the evening and our brave “contestants” rose to the occasion to demonstrate their on-your-feet speaking skills. The Best Table Topics Award went to Neil, for his conjecture of “Hockey Puck Day” in which he showed his entrepreneurial spirit for creating a business promoting pucks, and finished just in time to seal the deal!! Well done Neil, and especial kudos to Tom, one of our newest members, for his wonderful version of celebrating a “Free Saturday” – you really love your work Tom, and were so enthusiastic about working on your day off!!
Matt was our speaker this evening and won the Best Speaker Award. Thanks for explaining the Distinguished Club Program and commenting on Tillicum attaining President's Distinguished status many times. He described his role of area governor, how it pertains our our club, Area 80, and Division J. This is particularly beneficial information for new and would-be members to see where they form part of this worldwide organization. George won the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Matt’s speech.
Apart from her role as Grammarian, Sue was busy collecting membership renewals, and would be pleased to receive payment from those members who have not yet renewed their membership. We only have until the end of September to renew, so please do so as quickly as possible.
October 3rd is our Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contests night, so look forward to seeing you with contestants and audience members all showing up for this riant and suspenseful evening!!
Best wishes,
Maureen
