In my absence, many thanks to Candace for taking notes during the evening and offering the following contribution to the Blog:
Colleen, one of Tillicum's long-time members, was the masterful Chair of tonight’s meeting. We had an excellent turnout and welcomed two returning guests ... Sima and Leona ... and hope that they enjoyed themselves once again.

My Favourite Food proved to be a popular topic - chocolate was mentioned by many, along with perogies, beer and wine. The Word of the Day was Ambrosia and ambrosia salad was listed as both a least and most favourite food (and a cheap way to use the WOD!). Congratulations to Roxy for moving out of her comfort zone and doing an excellent job as Grammarian ... we look forward to hearing that she is ready for Table Topics one day soon!
Candace enjoyed her favourite role as Table Topics Master, and brought up five oh-so-willing "volunteers" to talk about many aspects of food, from a Kraft dinner-only restaurant through to mouse turds in UBC cinnamon buns (yes you had to be there!). Congratulations to new member David C for once again winning the Table Topics best speaker award!
Chris F was our Toastmaster and toasted "comfort food". We were blown away by Tom's Ice-breaker speech - truly amazing for a new member, and filled with humour, passion and drama. We very much look forward to future speeches from Tom. Barb used us to practise her 20 minute speech to the Parliamentarians on Robert’s rules of order. She made a potentially dry topic extremely fascinating and it was a difficult vote for the best speaker. Tom was the award winner of the evening ... well done Tom!
Tillicum Toastmasters distinguished themselves ably at the October 13th Area 80 Fall Speech contest - Alex won the Humorous Speech Contest and Candace won the Table Topics Contest. Unfortunately, neither Candace nor Alex will be able to attend the Division J contest on Wednesday, November 2nd but we hope that many club members will attend to see excellent speakers from other clubs compete. The contest will be held at the New Westminster Public Library (6th Ave and 8th Street), registration at 6 p.m. and the contest should begin about 6.20 p.m.
See you Oct 24th for our next meeting: What's with the weather anyway?

Addendum: As Alex, who delivered a marvelous speech that could well take him to the District level, will be off on a cruise at the time of the Division J contest (if Wilma allows!), Maureen spoke with Matt, the Area 80 Governor, because she felt that Area 80 should be represented at the Division J contest. As she came 2nd in the club contest, Matt agreed to her representing Tillicum and Area 80 at the Division J contest on November 2nd. She needs all the help she can get – so please come out and cheer her on – who knows what may ensue!!
Thanks again Candace, and see you on the 24th with Maureen as the Chair.
