We welcomed our first-time guest Harvey, a long-time Toastmaster who has lived in a number of North American cities and has recently moved to North Vancouver. Harvey is a friend of Jim, and Carol, Jim’s wife, also graced us with her presence. Carol wanted to be present at a club meeting, as on her first visit to the club it was the night of the club contest. We thank you both for visiting and glad you enjoyed yourselves.
Brian, as our very congenial Chair, led the meeting, the theme of which was Home Renovations. A great theme, and one to which we could all relate.
Our Grammarian, Susan, gave us the word of the day: Exacerbate (v.): to make more severe, to aggravate; example: “With his exacerbated nerves, he was always on edge!” Most can relate to this when doing any type of renovation and nerves really need to be soothed!
John, as Table Topics Master, did a wonderful job of bridging between contestants while presenting five scenarios involving home renovations. The Best Speaker Award went to Anita who cleaned out her basement and got right down on the floor to describe how she filled holes and smoothed them over – during the latter months of her pregnancy; quite a visual Anita and so well done!!
Harvey, our guest, gallantly took on the role of Toastmaster and proved his competence in working through the second half of the meeting introducing speakers and evaluators. Well done Harvey – you fitted right into the club scene!
Ken and Mary were the two program speakers. Ken very serenely concluded his cliffhanger from last week and Mary presented from the Storytelling manual with a wonderful portrayal of a restaurant owner describing one of her patrons, Vincent Van Gogh. A very subtle conclusion, giving Mary the Best Speaker Award, and the Best Evaluator Award going to Carol M. for her evaluation of Mary’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!
Lydia is our Chair on May 15th, so please help her as she calls on you to fill roles.
Best wishes,
