Our return to meetings following the May long weekend, and we had a good turnout including our guests: Larry, who had attended Speechcraft earlier this year and visited Tillicum for the first time; and our returning guests Harvey, Howard and Noriko. Thanks again for visiting and your input into the evening!
Antonella was our very capable Chair for the evening, the topic of which was “My Dream Job”. Thanks for arranging this Antonella; not always easy to bring a meeting together following a two-week intermission, and you did an admirable job! Just about everyone had something to say about their dream job, whether they worked in one already or had their impressions of what a dream job would be, with some very interesting dialogue.
Brian, our humorous Grammarian, gave us the word of the day: Caprice (n.): inconsistency or change in behaviour. Example: “With annoying caprice, she changed between frugality to extravagance!” Caprice and its adjectives were used very well during the evening and Brian was quite impressed!!
During the Business Meeting the election of the incoming executive for July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007 took place; Rosemary, our President, thanked the current executive for their hard work during this past year and welcomed the new executive:
Mary: President
Susan/Tom: VP Education
Carol: VP Membership
Maureen: VP Public Relations

Congratulations to these members who will work to ensure that Tillicum Toastmasters continues to be one of the strongest clubs in District 21!!
Margot, as Table Topics Master, presented five scenarios relating to work and its pertinent environments, and it was John who took the Best Table Topics Award for his beautiful description of three aspects of his work that he really enjoys. Lutz won the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of table topics.
We also thanked John for his inspiration in which he gave to everyone at the meeting a lovely card colourfully describing My Dream Job! This is one where I can:
Deliver (using my talents, skills)
Results (meaningful contributions)
Effectively and one where I am …
Acknowledged (recognized) and
Motivated (personal needs met).
We had two program speakers, both of whom were not evaluated but individual evaluations were later passed to each speaker. Larry, who is retiring from a teaching position, delivered his well thought out and humorous retirement speech for our evaluation and comment. Nicely done Larry and thanks for visiting the club and allowing us the opportunity to meet you and listen to your speech.
Tom then delivered the second of two modules towards his Competent Leader, this second one being on Leadership, and charmed us with his eloquence and motivation. Congratulations Tom! You have now earned your Competent Leader, and this will be sent to Toastmasters International in early July, so we will start off the new Toastmasters’ year with a great goal!! As well, Tom won the Best Speaker Award. Congratulations to all winners.
A great theme and a great evening to conclude this month! We meet next Monday, June 5 when the theme is “The Artist in Me” and your chair will be Candace, so please help her as she calls on you to fill roles.
Please note that commencing June 5, Maureen will be asking you to submit your names and those who wish to join you to the July 9 showing of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”. The movie rates have decreased (what!!!) and the group rate is now only $6.00 per person for admission, popcorn and a drink – such a deal!! Looks like a great show, so ask your family and friends if they wish to join us on July 9 – we need at least 20 participants to qualify for the group rate.
Thanks again, and see you on June 5th!
