2007’s first meeting saw a great turnout of members and guests. Our first-time guests were: Alicia, Mitra, Victor, and John and our returning guests were Tehri and Michelle. Thank you all for visiting and glad to hear you enjoyed your visit.
Michelle had visited the club on December 4 as a Speechcrafter and promised to join Tillicum, which she did last evening! So thank you Michelle and welcome to Tillicum! You have demonstrated good speaking skills at Speechcraft and we look forward to hearing from you as you progress with us!
Jim, who has been a member since 2006 and volunteered a few roles, very gallantly chaired the meeting, the theme of which was A Brand New Year!! Well done Jim on your first attempt as Chair; nice bridging throughout and you kept to the theme.
Thank you Carol for volunteering as Grammarian at the last minute, a role you filled gracefully and humorously!! As the word of the day, Carol chose Proactive, meaning: to put off until later. Example: “Is it really easier to procrastinate than prepare a speech?” Proactive and its derivatives were used well during the meeting.
Tom also stood in on a moment’s notice to be the Table Topics Master and presented five different scenarios, ranging from being the most infamous Canadian, being President of the Procrastinators’ Club, a conspiracy behind the rip in the roof of BC Place stadium, to why did Santa blow Christmas 2006? Excellent descriptions by all candidates, and Maureen took the Best Table Topics Award for her rendition of a rather disappointed Santa – who blames the Internet for his gradual downfall!!
Our two speakers of the night were Anne with her Ice Breaker and Julie who delivered her third speech. Two great speeches from such new members, and we congratulate Anne for winning the Best Speaker Award – well done on your first role at the club! Lydia won the Best Evaluator Award for evaluating Julie’s speech.
Just a reminder to the Executive that Division J training takes place in the Auditorium of New Westminster Public Library this Thursday, January 11 at 6 p.m., followed by an Executive Meeting. As many executive members as possible are asked to attend this training so that we may realize yet another President’s Distinguished Club goal. Look forward to seeing you at the Library.
Our meeting next week will be chaired by Carol, and the theme is Murder Mystery – so get your magnifying glasses and deerstalkers to the ready, and help Carol fill the roles when she calls on you!
Incidentally, hope you like this easy-to-follow layout now offered by Blogger – keeping the ever-growing list of archives hidden from sight, and enabling easier surfing throughout the links!!
See you on January 15!
Best wishes,
