As we approach St. Patrick’s Day, our theme for this evening was “Four Leaf Clover – Luck?”. We had another full house for this meeting and welcomed our guests Cassie, and Junie (visiting from New York). Thanks so much for attending and glad to hear you enjoyed yourselves and benefitted from the meeting.
Antonella, our very eloquent Chair for the evening, presented lots of trivia surrounding the four leaf clover, including seamróg, a diminutive of seamar "clover". While shamrock may be very evident, apparently four-leaf clover is very rarely seen, which gives rise to the thought that if you have a four-leaf clover, it will bring you luck!! Great job on chairing the meeting with good bridging!
Brian as Grammarian chose Perennial (adj.) as the word of the day, meaning: lasting through the whole year, or lasting a very long time. Example: “It is as perennial as the grass that grows”, and was used with some frequency during the Roundtable Introductions. Thanks Brian for keeping us on our toes and watching for the dreaded ahs and uhms. Nice job!
Rosemary presented an excellent Education Session on Mental Flexibility, and we can look forward to a continuation of these types of sessions in the coming weeks. Well done Rosemary for electing such a challenging role towards your Advanced Toastmaster Gold!
Maurice as Table Topics Master was readily armed with four scenarios to do with luck, and ranged from finding a four-leaf clover, rabbit’s foot, to how a horseshoe changed your luck. Karen described her very own lucky charm derived from her “Polish background” and with a straight face clearly outlined the luck she received from leftover Polish sausage!! Very humorous and a great job Karen, who easily won the Best Table Topics Award!
Following the Intermission, we had three program speakers: Albert, who so knowingly and carefully educated us on the dangers of diabetes, Vic who advised us of the horrors of grass beetles, and Michelle who showed off her skills using visual aids while following the goals set by a billionaire. Congratulations to Michelle on winning the Best Speaker Award and Maureen who won the Best Evaluator Award for evaluating Michelle’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!
Next week, March 19, sees the club International Speech and Evaluation Contests. Do come to support the speakers and join in the fun!
Don’t forget to attend on March 26, when Grace will be your chair for “Time Management” and an evening of speeches, and to renew your subscription by March 31.
Only three weeks to April 2, when Tillicum turns 45!!
See you on the 19th!
Best wishes,
