Another wonderful turnout of members and we welcomed our first-time guest Kevin. Thanks so much for visiting and for your positive comments; glad you enjoyed your first visit! It was also a great surprise and pleasure to see a returning member, Hal – looking so well and we hope you can visit us again!
Karen in her first-time role as Chair, led the meeting the theme being, “What Success Means to Me” – a great topic and so well introduced and led by Karen. Good bridging throughout and well handled during the evening.
Ken, as Grammarian, gave us the word of the day: Magnanimity (n.) the quality of being magnanimous; character who enables one to encounter danger and trouble with tranquility and firmness. Example: “Magnanimous relief efforts can serve to offset the collateral damage of war.” This tongue twister was mentioned quite frequently during the round table introductions!
Margot was a wonderful Table Topics Master and went to great trouble to peruse "The Vancouver Sun" and cut out sections relating to success in the workplace. These scenarios were extended to five of our newer members who all rose to the occasion and answered clearly and magnanimously! Congratulations to Michelle, who won the Best Table Topics Award for her description of Tourism in Vancouver.
We had two program speakers: Tom, speaking from Interpretive Reading, and a very pleasant return to speaking by Maurice. Excellent deliveries by both speakers, and the Best Speaker Award went to Maurice for his daring attempt to read in rhyme the dialogue between two commentators of two opposing teams in the ring – using his children’s toys, Maurice presented a quite different project to the club and did an excellent job. The Best Evaluator Award was shared by Julie for Table Topics, and Rosemary, who evaluated Maurice’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!
Antonella is Chair of the March 12th meeting, the theme is: Four Leaf Clover: is it a lucky charm? Please assist Antonella as she calls on you to fill roles. As well, check the Assigned Roles for upcoming meetings because, thanks to Susan, they will soon be updated to include April through to July!!
Look forward to seeing you at our next meeting, March 12, 2007. Only two meetings in March, on the 12th and 26th (the 19th is the Club Contests). Please remember too that club membership renewals are due by March 31st, so please submit your $60 payment to Karen, our Treasurer, as soon as is possible. Thank you!
Best wishes,
