Meeting of Monday, June 25, 2007

A very full evening lay ahead for us to enjoy and we had a full house on this, the last meeting of 2006-2007!

Lutz was our congenial Chair, with the theme “Live to work or work to live?” Animated discussion on this ensued throughout the meeting, which was well chaired by Lutz with excellent bridging expertise.

Vic as Grammarian chose the word of the day: Journey (n.) Life Journey from old French “journee”, to travel from one place to another; “… the journey from childhood through adolescence to maturity”. Journey and its derivatives were well used throughout the evening.

Wendy, who joined the club some time ago and has had other commitments on Monday evenings, graced us with her presence and was nominated and inducted into Tillicum Toastmasters. Congratulations Wendy; we will work with you to help you through your Toastmaster experience.

Susan delivered an excellent Education Session speaking on the Distinguished Club Program, and included Tillicum’s theme for 2007-2008: Reaching Higher! – and in completing this second module achieved her Competent Leader; Congratulations Susan! This award will meet a considerable goal in the coming year.

With work as the theme, Rod as Table Topics Master engaged in the achievements of many notables and offered five scenarios ranging from academy award winners to helping out people making the wrong choice. This latter situation was well mastered by Gertrude who won the Best Table Topics Award – well done!

We had three program speakers this evening: John delivering his Ice Breaker and Brad his 2nd speech. Rosemary concluded this section with an Education Session (not evaluated) from Success Communication on “Mental Flexibility” #4 of 9. All well presented and congratulations to John on an excellent Ice Breaker who won the Best Speaker Award and to Karen as Best Evaluator, for her evaluation of Brad’s speech.

Sunday, July 8 at 1 p.m.: Susan will host the incoming and outgoing executive at a changeover meeting in her home and will be in touch with you outlining the agenda and details. Don’t forget it’s pot luck!!

In July meetings are held on the 9th, 23 and 30 – the 2nd being the Canada Day holiday from the club, and the 16th the picnic.

Many members will be delivering speeches over the next few months, so please see the list of tentative speakers and contact the Chair of the meeting and Maureen if you want to add your name to these projected dates.

Maureen is Chair on July 9 the theme being Active Living. Sounds good, and she will be contacting those on the sign up sheet nearer the time to confirm your roles.

Enjoy a happy Canada Day on Sunday July 1st (and 2nd!) and see you on July 9.

Best wishes,
