A full-house this evening as we returned to our schedule following the Canada Day holiday, and welcomed our first-time guests: Gloria, José, Lynn, Tamara, and Thomas. Thank you so much for visiting and for your positive comments. We trust you will again visit Tillicum to enjoy future meetings.
Maureen chaired the meeting, the theme being Active Living. A great theme with lots to talk about and everyone had some input as to their kind of active living.
Our thanks to Brian as Grammarian, who chose the word of the day: Onomatopoeia (n.) meaning the formation of a name or word by imitating the sound associated with the item designated, e.g., buzz, hum, splash, hiss, or cuckoo! Example: “There was an enormous “SPLASH” when the three boys jumped off the diving board into the swimming pool!” We had a lot of fun with sound effects when describing our onomatopoeic words, and Brian delivered a good report!
Grace was our very able Table Topics Master and kept to the Active Living theme. We congratulate Brad on winning the Best Table Topics Award for his quick-thinking three-part plan for Active Living: eat ice cream, keep the remote control on the TV so you have to walk to pick it up, and for brain power, concentrate on Table Topics to keep mental energy rising higher! Our five members received a very good evaluation from Antonella!
Maureen also opted for the role of Toastmaster, as she incorporated this with the #5 project “Introduce the Speaker” from the Specialty Speeches manual in working towards her ACG.
There were two program speakers this evening: Michelle (ACB #3) and Lydia (ACS #1). Great deliveries from both speakers and we congratulate Lydia on winning the Best Speaker Award. Lutz, VP Education, also presented Lydia with a club certificate on completing five projects from the Entertaining Speaker manual. Lutz evaluated Lydia and Maurice evaluated Maureen and both tied for the Best Evaluator Award. Congratulations to all winners!

We concluded the meeting with a short remembrance of Anne Kramer, DTM, who died on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 following a long battle with cancer. Anne made a tremendous contribution to Toastmasters and most especially when she was District 21 Governor, 2004-5, and brought D-21 to third place in the world. Working tirelessly, she encouraged all she knew, and will be very sadly missed. May God grant her eternal rest.
Picnic in the Park: next Monday, July 16, we will have our annual picnic in Queens Park. Members and guests are all invited and we shall meet at the Band Shell at 6:30 p.m. No matter which way you enter the park, please drive towards the tennis courts and turn left, past the petting zoo and Centennial Lodge, and keep straight ahead until the large band shell appears. There is lots of free parking to the right of the band shell. Look forward to seeing you at the picnic.
Our next scheduled meeting will be Monday, July 23, when the chair will be Antonella, and the theme Positive Character Traits. Please do assist Antonella, as she calls on you to complete roles.
See you on the 16th!
Best wishes,
