Another wonderful turnout of members and we welcomed our first-time guests Taryn, and Rowan (from Speechcraft), with our returning guests Gloria and Tamara. Many thanks for attending and glad to hear you enjoyed the evening, which you found a learning experience! We trust you will return to Tillicum to continue this Toastmaster experience.
Chairperson Antonella presided so well during the course of the evening and it was a great night, the theme being Positive Character Traits. Very nicely done Antonella, keeping the meeting on theme and on time!
Brad was the Grammarian and chose Integrity as the word of the day, meaning: Basing of one’s actions on an internally consistent framework of principles. Example: “Amidst the backdrop of infighting and backstabbing, she maintained herself with the utmost of integrity.” Another great word that was well utilized by members and guests alike – nice job Brad in this, your first-time role as Grammarian!
Anita as Table Topics Master chose four scenarios well acted out and based on positive character traits. It was Lutz, who loves clowning around, who won the Best Table Topics Speaker award and thanks to all speakers for a job well done!
Grace as Toastmaster included this role in her 1st project towards AC Bronze and chose #5 from the Specialty Speeches manual to Introduce the Speaker, and was evaluated by Ken. Thanks for introducing three speakers: Rod CC#5, Tom ACG, and Maureen ACG #2. Great speeches and the Best Speaker Award went to Maureen and Best Evaluator Award to Maurice, who evaluated Maureen’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!
Rod concluded his 5th speech in the Communication and Leadership program and was awarded his certificate, so congratulations Rod on reaching the half way mark towards becoming a Competent Communicator!
Regarding the Assigned Roles that are now posted through to December: thanks to Rosemary for volunteering the role of Table Topics Master on July 30 (Susan as Chair) and to Rod, who volunteered this role too on August 20 (Lydia as Chair).
Please visit the Speakers in Waiting link to see those members who wish to speak in the coming weeks, and if you too wish to enter your name on this listing, please contact Maureen. This will give the Chairs a backup of speakers should speakers on the signup sheet not be able to attend on their chosen night
Just a note too that Elvis and Patsy Cline will be back in New Westminster on Friday/Saturday, August 17/18 – performing the music of the ‘50s and ’60s movie hits on the 17th and ’68 comeback and ‘70s Las Vegas years. As we have seen his Las Vegas routine a number of times, perhaps the Friday, 17th might be of interest to you. You can check out Steve Elliott’s schedule to see which night suits you and as a group of ten or more, we normally receive a discount on tickets.
Susan will chair the next meeting and Favourite Books is the theme, so please help Susan fill roles for this meeting.
See you on the 30th!
Best wishes,
