Meeting of Monday, September 17, 2007

We had a number of first-time guests join us this evening, and welcomed Danielle, Wendy and Richard, as well as Cathy on her return visit. Thank you for your complimentary comments and we look forward to seeing you again at future events.

“Here Comes Fall” was the appropriate theme this evening, and the meeting was well-chaired by Margot, a long-time member. Great bridging and keeping the meeting to theme and on time!

Rosemary, as Grammarian, chose Crepuscular (adj.) as the word of the day; an appropriate word pertaining to dusk or twilight; dim; having limited visibility. Example: “Just after sunset a crepuscular gloom descends on the city.” Amazingly, well-used throughout the evening when speaking of fall and other crepuscular situations!

Karen was excellent as our Table Topics Master and called on four members delivering varying fall-oriented scenarios. Congratulations to Maurice on the Best Table Topics Award and who cleverly explained his escapades when trying to cook a turkey with no electricity, but lots of help from his wife!!

During the Business Meeting, Susan our president indicated that Lourdes had offered her services to act as Secretary on the Executive. We willingly voted Lourdes into this role, and thank you for your enthusiasm. Welcome to the Executive Lourdes; you have taken another step into leadership.

At the last executive meeting we discussed having Pizza at the club and decided to hold this on Monday September 29, which is the Halloween theme. A motion was put to the club that Tillicum takes funds from its account to serve pizza to its members and, of course, it met with unanimous approval!! Details will be discussed in the coming weeks as to your choice of pizza, etc., so stay tuned!

The three program speakers were Lourdes, Michelle and Maureen, and the Best Speaker Award went to Maureen and Best Evaluator Award to Brad for his evaluation of Maureen’s speech. Congratulations to all winners.

Rosemary, who is Area 84 Governor, requested that members of Tillicum attend Loudspeakers’ club contest on Wednesday, September 26. This is a small club that is very appreciative of members attending meetings and contests, so please help them as they try to develop their club base. If you wish to attend on September 26, please contact Rosemary for directions, etc.; this is also a great way to expand your Toastmaster knowledge and meet other club members.

Our own club contest is next Monday, September 24. Please contact Susan if you wish to help out in roles, or take part in the contests.

Thanks for your input, and see you on the 24th!

Best wishes,
