As summer activities are winding down, we had a good turnout at tonight’s meeting and welcomed our first-time guests Cathy (from Ontario, and a Toastmaster), Helen (friend of Lourdes) and Corry (friend of Lydia). Thanks so much for visiting, for your warm comments, and we hope to see you at future meetings!
A full agenda with Tom as Chair, and he did a magnificent job keeping the meeting to theme (Summer Accomplishments) and to time!
Susan, as Grammarian, chose Altruistic (adj.) as the word of the day, meaning: selfless concern for the welfare of others. Example: “She altruistically spent her holiday working at an orphanage in Brazil.” Well-used throughout the evening, people were most altruistic in their comments of one another!
Rosemary made us think during the Education Session and offered four scenarios on how we view the varying points of view of others when faced with stressful and every-day situations. Nicely done Rosemary, as always!
Margot, as Table Topics Master, very succinctly incorporated four table topics related to summer activities, and the Best Table Topics Award went to John, for his venture into gold panning!! Great job John!
Lourdes, Gertrude and Maureen were the program speakers, and the Best Speaker Award went to Maureen, and the Best Evaluator Awards were presented to Antonella and Maurice, who evaluated Lourdes’ and Maureen’s speeches. Congratulations to all winners!
Our next meeting is Monday, September 17, and the following week, 24th, we will have the Club Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contest. Please be sure to come out to enjoy the fun!
As well, membership dues ($60) are payable by the end of September, so please remember to renew in the coming weeks.
Look forward to seeing you on the 17th!
Best wishes,
