Meeting of Monday, October 1, 2007

Our first meeting of Fall, and we had a wonderful turnout! We welcomed our first-time guest Shawn, and returning guest Teri with her brother Conrad. Thank you for visiting, and pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit.

Kim, who was a first-time guest on September 24 at the club contest, returned this evening and completed her membership application with payment. Thank you Kim for joining Tillicum, and welcome to our Toastmasters club! We wish you success in your new venture and are here to help you achieve your goals!

Our Chair this evening was John, who did an excellent job in this his first-time role as chair. Such a great theme as we approach Thanksgiving next week: Things for which to be thankful, and we all shared our reasons for being thankful. Nice job of bridging and keeping the meeting to time!

Ken, as Grammarian, chose Cornucopia as the word of the day, meaning: Horn of Plenty. Example: “There is a cornucopia of things for which I am grateful”. An appropriate word that was given cornucopian usage during the evening, and especially during round-table introductions!

Grace, our Area 80 Governor, made this her club visit to Tillicum and spoke on her role as AG, the upcoming conference in Harrison at the beginning of November and is looking for a successor as AG80 when her term ends on June 30, 2008. Thanks Grace for your visit and continued good wishes in your role.

Table Topics was next on the agenda with Vic as Table Topics Master. Very enterprising selection of Thanksgiving scenarios and the Best Table Topics Award went to Brian who is thankful to be alive and recounted a harrowing moment in Cyprus when he and his rugby team narrowly escaped death. Congratulations Brian, and we look forward to your being our Chair on October 15, with the ever-so-appropriate theme of Dieting, following Thanksgiving!!

The two program speakers were Gertrude and Maureen, and Gertrude again charmed us with her Touching Story from the Storytelling manual. Maureen, in completing the Specialty Speeches Manual, roasted Maurice – and won Best Speaker Award. Tom, as her evaluator, won the Best Evaluator Award. Congratulations to all winners!

Just a reminder that Monday,October 29 will be our Pizza Night; on the 15th and 22nd please advise us of your choice of pizza, to ensure we cater to everyone on the 29th!

Do enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, and look forward to seeing you on the 15th – please assist Brian when he calls on you to fill roles on this Evening of Speeches.

Best wishes,
