Meeting of Monday, October 29, 2007

PIZZA NIGHT! was well attended and we welcomed our returning guests Corry and Francisco. Glad you could join us, and again thanks for your warm comments.

Julie as Chair did an exceptional job in keeping the meeting to time and on theme, which was appropriately Halloween!

Michelle, as Grammarian, offered another appropriate word of the day: petrify (v.): rigid with fear or astonishment; example: "John petrified the whole class with his horrific Halloween costume!"

Our president Sue really got into the spirit as Table Topics Master and had a costume change for each "contestant" - from a witch, to a devil, to a cowgirl, to a clown, and finally to karate - a tremendous job that really led itself to the moment! Rosemary took home the Best Table Topics Award for locking her children in the basement! (Just kidding!) Nice job Rosemary!

There were three program speakers: Judith, delivering her 2nd speech from the CC manual on the origins of Halloween and did a wonderful job. Tom, in working towards his ACG, told us the Moral of the Story, and Susan in working through her ACB presented an award. Tom won the Best Speaker Award and Maurice the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Susan's speech. Excellent work by all, and congratulations to the winners.

Susan, in presenting an award, actually did present the Distinguished Toastmaster Award to Maureen, together with club gifts - a complete surprise to Maureen and so eloquently presented. Thank you so much!

Next week it will be a sombre note as we honour Remembrance Day, with Lutz as Chair. Please assist him when he calls on you to fill roles.

Look forward to seeing you on November 5th!

Best wishes,
