Meeting of Monday, November 5, 2007

Please wear your Poppies with Pride.

Remembrance Day was the somber theme of this evening’s meeting, which was so well-chaired by Lutz, who led the meeting and kept it to theme and on time. An appropriate theme and while we tend to have fun in our meetings, we gave this meeting the respect and decorum it deserved, resulting in a powerful and professional gathering.

Tamara, as Grammarian, offered rudimentary (adj.) as the word of the day, (basic, undeveloped) with the example “Many of the younger generations’ understanding of what happened in the war is rudimentary, so Remembrance Day helps us to not only remember but also to learn.” Thanks Tamara for monitoring our ahhs and uhms, and keeping us in tow! Well done!

Ken, busy this evening delivering a number of roles, rose to the occasion as Table Topics Master and offered five scenarios with war-time aspects, both humorous and solemn. The Best Table Topics Award went to both Maureen and Brad (“Hot Lips” [Loretta Swit] and Leslie Howard) for their interpretations of these two actors!

Susan, as President, made a special presentation to Karen, who at last was able to attend a meeting! The Rookie of the Year Award was aptly presented to Karen for her work as a new Toastmaster, who will soon complete her Competent Communicator Award at the club!! Congratulations Karen!

The two program speakers, Anita and Ken, both embarked on their Advanced Bronze manuals. Anita won the Best Speaker Award and Maurice the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Anita’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!

November 12 is a holiday so there will not be a meeting. We do return on November 19, with Mythical Monsters as the theme. Margot will be Chair, so please assist her as she calls on you to fill roles.

See you on the 19th,
Best wishes,
