Meeting of Monday, December 3, 2007

An excellent turnout despite the snow and rain that had poured down the previous weekend! Thanks so much for venturing out on such a dark and stormy night! And thanks too, to our first-time guest Mariam and returning guest Michelle. We thank you for your warm comments and glad you enjoyed the meeting!

Michelle, who graduated from Speechcraft recently, kept her promise and joined Tillicum this evening! Thank you and Congratulations Michelle; welcome to our club. You have already completed six projects from the Speechcraft manual and it won’t be too long before you become a Competent Communicator!

With the completion of the Club Officer listing, Tillicum has now achieved five out of ten goals and is a Distinguished Club!! Well done Tillicum, and with the upcoming CCs and ancillary goals, we are well on our way to becoming President's Distinguished in the near future!

Brad, in his first-time role as Chairman, was superb and kept the meeting to theme (Christmas) and on time, with excellent bridging. Great job Brad!

Julie, as Grammarian, chose Gamut (n.) as the word of the day, meaning: the entire scale or range or, in music, the entire series of recognized notes.

Lutz, as a very able and festive-oriented Table Topics Master, presented five scenarios with the Christmas theme and Kim, one of our latest members, rose to the challenge and presented her first Table Topics. What a magnificent job, carefully outlining the 20 Christmas trees that adorn her home, courtesy of her talented craft-oriented mother-in-law!!! Humorous and spontaneous she was clearly the Best Table Topics Speaker. However, Maureen was shocked to learn that she tied with Kim, and remedied the Grinch who stole Christmas, quite simply by killing him!!

Wendy, in her first-time role as Toastmaster, also rose to the challenge and presented three program speakers and their evaluators. Excellent speeches from Rod (#8), Lourdes (#7) and Tom (#9), who has almost completed his AC Gold, and congratulations to Tom on winning the Best Speaker Award. This project was On Accepting an Award, and Tom humbly and eloquently accepted the award for Toastmaster of the Year, which he so rightly received earlier this year. Congratulations to Rosemary on being voted Best Evaluator for her eloquent evaluation of Rod’s heart-warming speech. Well done all winners!

Club certificates were presented to Tom on achieving his AC Silver status and to Rosemary, who recently completed her AC Gold. Congratulations are very much in order for both Rosemary and Tom, as they exemplify themselves in their roles as Toastmasters.

We were fortunate to have our Division J Governor, Jason, visit us to present an award to John, for winning 1st place in the Division J Table Topics Contest in October. Congratulations John and thanks again Jason!

Next week, December 10, will be the Christmas Party. Please arrive about 6:30 p.m. and bring your Potluck dish (or dishes) for our dining pleasure! As well, please remember to bring non-perishable items for the food bank. Maureen will take your offerings to St. Michael’s Church in Burnaby, where they have a year-round food bank pickup and greatly acknowledge your donations.

Hard to believe another calendar year is drawing to a close, and we hope to see you and your friends and family at the Christmas Party!

Best wishes,
