Another wonderful turnout of members and guests this evening, and we welcomed our first-time guests Sachiyo and Kathy (Area 22 Governor, Deputy Div. B Governor and Club Coach), and it was good to see past member Sheila visit us with the promise to return. Thank you so much for visiting and for your warm comments!
Maureen energetically chaired the meeting with the theme Diet and Exercise. Lots of activities to keep the audience limbered up and on their toes!
Brad as Grammarian advised the word of the day Gastronome: a person devoted to refined, sensuous enjoyment of good food and drink, e.g., “Bob, a self-proclaimed gastronome, found the temptation to stray from his diet overwhelming!” Great job of monitoring our usage of speech, etc. and agreeing to a word that found its way into our vocabulary during the evening!
Rod, who completed his Competent Communicator manual a few weeks was awarded the club certificate – congratulations Rod.
Michelle L. as Table Topics Master presented five scenarios related to diet and exercise, with hilarious results, and it was Tom who, as our country’s Prime Minister, expressed his concern about obesity in our nation and jogged off with the Best Table Topics Speaker award! Well done Tom!!
Ken took on the role of Toastmaster and welcomed our three program speakers: Lourdes (CC#9), Sue (ACB #1) and Tom (ACG #10). Excellent deliveries by all three and congratulations to Tom who won the Best Speaker Award and to Rosemary who won the Best Evaluator award for her evaluation of Tom’s Speech.
Apart from picking up two awards this evening, Tom was also awarded the club certificate on his Advanced Communicator Gold – congratulations! The awards to both Rod and Tom will be officially recognized by Toastmasters International and will appear on the District Performance Reports web site.
TWO IMPORTANT NOTICES:
Club Renewals: we are approaching that time of the year when membership renewals of $60 are due, so please submit during the next few weeks. Antonella, our Treasurer, will be happy to receive your renewal payment and issue a receipt. All dues are to be paid by Monday, March 31, 2008.
Peter Legge: Mr. Peter Legge is a well-known author and businessman. He is also a Golden Gavel recipient. A wonderful opportunity for you to hear such an accomplished Toastmaster speak will take place in New Westminster on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, when Peter is the guest speaker at The Canadian Club of New Westminster and the Fraser Valley. Please attend this great evening which starts with dinner at 7 p.m. and Peter’s presentation in the Theatre at 8 p.m. The very reasonable cost of $23.00 for a delicious three-course meal and beverage also includes Peter's presentation on Positive Thinking and Family. Please contact Maureen if you wish to attend.
Next meeting is Monday, February 25th when Brad will chair, and the theme is Travel. Do help Brad as he calls on you to fill roles.
Best wishes,
