Another fine turnout of members for our first meeting following the Easter holiday, and we welcomed our first-time guests Genika and Wayne. Many thanks for visiting and we trust you enjoyed the meeting.
Ken, our Sergeant-at-Arms, did a great job starting the meeting while we awaited our Chair, Tom, who was tied up in traffic! Like the consummate Toastmaster that he is, Tom seamlessly took over from Ken and continued the meeting, the theme of which was Politics and Stuff. Great job to both Ken and Tom for adding such flavour to our night!
Theresa, in one of her initial roles, was the Grammarian and offered Fundament as the word of the day. Great word, which was used periodically during the meeting and roundtable introductions, and thanks too for a very comprehensive Grammarian's report!!
Margot graced us with an Education Session on Evaluation, and it was nice to see her in this role at the lectern.
Maurice, as Table Topics Master, really had fun with tonight’s theme and invited various members to speak on their roles as Ministers of Beer, Cosmetics, Chocolate, what will you really do as Prime Minister, and last but not least, a politician involved in nefarious schemes!! Tom willingly fell into this last role and earned himself the Best Table Topics Speaker Award. Nicely done by all “hopefuls”!!
Bogdan, our newest member, delivered his first speech this evening. His Ice Breaker was met with warm approval from the audience and we thank him for taking this first step through the Communications and Leadership Manual. At the other end of the spectrum was Brad, who delivered his tenth and final project in the manual and is now a Competent Communicator. Well done Brad, and congratulations! Brad was also voted Best Speaker and Rosemary was elected Best Evaluator for her evaluation of Brad’s speech.
Glad to see so many Toastmasters interested in the upcoming Peter Legge presentation at The Canadian Club of New Westminster and the Fraser Valley’s dinner on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the Justice Institute of B.C. This looks like a really exciting evening and for only $23 per person, you will be treated to a delicious three-course meal and then, in the Theatre, listen to Golden Gavel recipient, Peter Legge. Maureen will be addressing this on April 7 and 14. However, April 21 is the night before the dinner when all numbers should be given to the caterers, etc., so please ensure your payment is given to Maureen before April 21. Thank you,
Next Monday, April 7, will see Antonella as Chair, and the meeting theme will be oh so appropriate: Spring! Please help Antonella, when she calls on you to complete roles.
Looking forward to seeing you on the 7th!
Best wishes,
