Meeting of Monday, September 15, 2008

Another full house this evening and one in which we welcomed Lauren, our first-time guest and Sanjy, a returning guest. Thanks so much for visiting and for your positive comments.

Lisa, who had been a guest on a number of occasions, completed her application form and payment, and she is now a member of Tillicum! Congratulations Lisa and welcome to our club – we look forward to helping you in your Toastmaster experience.

Maurice, a long-time Toastmaster and veteran speaker, chaired the meeting with the wonderful theme of School. Keeping to theme and bridging between roles, Maurice, as usual, did an excellent job! Well done!

Michelle P. as Grammarian chose Ascertain (v.) as the word of the day. Meaning: to find out definitely, learn with certainty or assurance, determine to ascertain the facts, with the example: “Due to varying answers, I could not ascertain who was right on the matter.” A great word with lots of usage – thanks Michelle for such a comprehensive role!

Maureen presented an Ed Session describing the club’s web site.

Rosemary, as Table Topics Master, simply called upon five members and handed each a slip of paper on which was their topic! From the class nerd to being really cool, all members responded so well. However, the Best Table Topics Award went to Andrea, one of our newer members, for her interpretation of the class bully!! Nice job Andrea in portraying this (200lb) bully and your conversion …….. with lots of imagination and body language! Antonella demonstrated much skill in evaluating the contestants; nice job Antonella!

JinJing, in her first-time role as Toastmaster, eloquently introduced three program speakers: Dennis, John and Anita, and what wonderful deliveries from all three! Dennis, who was inducted only one week ago, jumped in at the deep end and delivered his first speech, the Ice Breaker – what a magnificent performance! Both John and Anita elected PowerPoint presentations for their speeches: John delivering #9 towards his CC, and Anita, who spoke on the 4th project of the Speaking to Inform advanced manual. Excellent work and an especial congratulation to Dennis, who won the Best Speaker Award for his first speech! The bar has been set very high, and we look forward to hearing more from you!

Great evaluations from Mariam, Tom and Brad, and Brad won the Best Evaluator award for his evaluation of Anita’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!

Don’t forget that next week, Monday, September 22, we will have the club’s Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contests. Please come along to this most entertaining evening; sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

Another reminder that membership renewals of $60 for October to March are due this month, so please remit your payment to Rod, our Treasurer, as soon as you can! Thanks so much!

The September 29th meeting will be chaired by Tom, with the entertaining theme of Sitcoms. More fun in store for you at Tillicum, so please sign up for roles on September 29th!

Look forward to seeing you on the 22nd!

Best wishes,
