Meeting of Monday, September 8, 2008

Following our Labour Day break, we resumed meetings and welcomed our first-time guest Mike and returning guest Lisa. Thanks so much for visiting and we look forward to seeing you again at future meetings.

Antonella was our gracious Chair and she did an excellent job keeping the meeting on time and to theme, which was the oh-so-current Transportation Woes!

Mariam, as Grammarian, chose Velocity (n.) as the word of the day. Meaning: increasing speed over time, with the example of “Due to its rapid growth in membership, Tillicum Toastmasters is experiencing velocity in gaining new members.” Used with much frequency during the evening, Velocity has found its niche at Tillicum! Thanks Mariam for a great job!

During the Business Meeting, Michelle P, as VP Membership, took great delight in inducting two of our latest members: Andrea and Dennis. Congratulations to you both, and welcome to Tillicum, where we look forward to working with you in achieving your goals!

Michelle P. as Table Topics Master called on four “victims” and posed scenarios relating to traffic woes. Kudos and congratulations to Mariam (Best Table Topics Speaker) for combatting excessive traffic noise, and turning on very loud and large speakers to face offending SkyTrain and other vehicular traffic!

Margot, as the very capable Toastmaster, introduced three program speakers: Christine #3 CC, JinJing #7 CC, and Susan completing the 5th project in Interpretive Reading, towards her Advanced Communicator Bronze level. Christine won the Best Speaker Award and Rosemary the Best Evaluator Award for her evaluation of JinJing’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!

Just a reminder that there is still time to attend the Bavaria Haus dinner on Wednesday, September 10, so please contact Maureen with your selection from the Group 2 menu.

Don’t forget that the Table Topics and Humorous Speech contests will take place on September 22, so please contact Margot if you wish to enter or, as a newer member, take on a role – which will be a great experience for you!

Membership renewals of $60 for October to March are due this month, so please remit your payment to Rod, our Treasurer, as soon as you can! Thanks so much!

Look forward to seeing you on September 15 when the theme is SchoolMaurice will chair, so please help him when he calls on you to fill roles.

Best wishes,
