Meeting of Monday, November 24, 2008

This was Jinjing’s first-time role as chair and she did a superb job maintaining the theme of the evening “Shopping Tips” and keeping the meeting on time – well done Jinjing!

Our returning guests this evening were Harold from Speechcraft and Binh, who completed his application form, submitted payment and is now a member of Tillicum! Congratulations Binh; we will help you in your Toastmaster experience and thank you for joining!

Antonella, as Grammarian, was very adventuresome with her word of the day: Caveat emptor, meaning “Let the buyer beware” – customers should be cautious and alert to the possibility of being cheated. “When buying a new car, one should use caveat emptor to ensure they are not swindled by a salesperson!” So, take note, especially during this shopping season! Included to some extent during the meeting, this was an excellent choice of word of the day! Thanks Antonella!

Grace as Table Topics Master created five scenarios regarding shopping and shopping tips, and the Best Table Topics Speaker Award went to Antonella, who gave a wonderful description of buying a Lamborghini at a rock bottom price (not forgetting the bottles of expensive wine she purchased to coerce the salesman!) Nice job Antonella!

Following the Intermission there were three program speakers: Kelly, who did an excellent job on her Ice Breaker, Andrea with her third speech, and Jennifer with her fourth speech, all from the Competent Communicator Manual. Nice going by all new speakers, and congratulations to Jennifer on winning the Best Speaker Award. Julie won the Best Evaluator Award for her evaluation of Andrea’s speech! Congratulations to all winners!

Brad will chair the December 1st meeting, so please help him when he calls on you to fill roles.

Best wishes,
