Meeting of Monday, January 26, 2009

A good turnout of members and guests this evening, and we welcomed our returning guests Sam and Sohale. Thank you for visiting and for making the decision to complete your membership application together with payment. Welcome to Tillicum as our newest members; we look forward to helping you both in your Toastmaster experience!

Brian was our most able chair this evening, with the theme “Why I continue with Toastmasters”. Not only did Brian do an excellent job of chairing the evening, he also adapted so well to changing circumstances! An Evening of Speeches with three speakers and evaluators did take place, and Brian was also able to include Table Topics during the second half of the evening. Well done Brian!

Susan as Grammarian chose Cogitate as the word of the day! Meaning to think carefully about, or to ponder, the example given was “After considerable cogitation, he decided to continue with Toastmasters!” Used at length during the evening, cogitate proved to be a good word, especially in Round Table Introductions! Thanks Susan!

During the Business Meeting, Michelle P., as VP Membership, inducted Lindsey, who joined recently, and we welcome Lindsey who had been a Toastmaster some years ago and decided to return to the fold!

Lisa and Binh both presented their Ice Breaker, the first speech, and were confident and well-prepared. Congratulations. Michelle L. an advanced speaker, charmed us with her folk tale from the Storytelling manual. Lisa was evaluated by Jennifer and Binh by Antonella, with Michelle being evaluated by Margot. Michelle won the Best Speaker Award.

Table Topics were led by Lutz with Mariam being the Best Table Topics Speaker and Maurice as the Best Evaluator. Congratulations to all winners!

Night out at Yianni’s: Thursday, February 12: please let Maureen know if you wish to attend this February dinner – to meet at 6:30 p.m. Nice restaurant and good food at reasonable pricing. Parking is above in the Westminster Mall on 6th Street, and Yianni’s is located next to Starbucks.

Next Monday, February 2, Maurice will chair the evening, so please help him when he calls on you to fill roles.

Best wishes,
