Meeting of Monday, November 15, 2004

Our meeting this evening had 15 members present and one guest, Antonella. Thank you for attending Antonella and expressing your interest in joining Tillicum Toastmasters.

Tod chaired the meeting with the theme World Currencies. With the world as our oyster, much was spoken on currencies in general and the Canadian dollar in particular!

The Grammarian’s role was ably conducted by Rosemary, who gave us the little-known word of the day: Nescience (n.) meaning lack of knowledge or awareness: ignorance. By its nature, the word was used wisely and often times to describe our knowledge or lack thereof relating to world currencies. Rosemary requested that the responsibilities of the Grammarian’s role be entered on the web site. This has been done, again in the Mission and Meetings link.

Andrew willingly stepped in to take on the role of Table Topics Master with quite an assortment of questions relating to currency. It was Susan, our newly-inducted member, who walked off with the Table Topics Award for clearly indicating the progenitors of money and how it has evolved over centuries. Well done Susan!

Following the break, John as Toastmaster eloquently led us to two speakers, Anita and Mary K. Anita enthralled us with her belly dancing and description of her beautiful costume, much of which she created. A more somber Mary K reminded us of Remembrance Day and the contribution made by First Nations people to the peace effort in World Wars. Excellent deliveries and both Anita and Mary tied for the Best Speaker Award – Congratulations!! In evaluating Mary’s speech, Maureen won the Best Evaluator Award.

A reminder that the Christmas Party is set for Monday, December 13 and Alex will be e-mailing the club members on this event.

Meanwhile, please check the Assigned Roles and Calendar of Events to keep you informed of activities during the next four weeks.

See you on November 22nd!
Best wishes,
