Speechcraft started at New Westminster Secondary School tonight, and a number of members joined Lydia, where she is leading this eight-week session. Good work Lydia and especial thanks to those of you for making this additional effort to help those attending Speechcraft.
At Tillicum we had a strong turnout, and again welcomed our returning guest Mario and our first time guest, David. Glad to hear you both enjoyed your visit.
Congratulations to Antonella and Trish who were inducted into Tillicum – you make an attractive addition to our membership!
Maurice was Chair for this evening’s meeting, the theme of which was SNOW. Living up to his excellent reputation for chairmanship, Maurice led the evening and, despite the pouring rain, the subject of snow was well and truly adhered to!
Susan as Grammarian gave an appropriate word of the day: Desolate (adj.): alone, without hope or comfort, e.g., The snow made the dark farmhouse look even more desolate. The word was brought into conversation quite often during the evening, including good usage by our guests!
Table Topics ensued with Andrew at the helm, and it was Hal who walked off with the Best Table Topics Speaker award for his rendition of a Crime Scene Investigator (in the snow, of course!) Congratulations to all who participated and gave wonderful answers to some well-thought out scenarios from Andrew.
The Best Speaker Award went to Maureen on her 2nd of four projects in the Public Relations Manual, all relating to the City of New Westminster. Congratulations also to Maurice for his evaluation of Maureen’s speech, a role he will continue for the next two weeks.
How appropriate that Neil, who heralds from Scotland, will be Chair next week, when the theme is “An Early Toast to Rabbie Burns”. Neil has been a member for a few months and taken on a number of roles within the club; this will be his first attempt at being Chair, so do help him when he contacts you to complete the agenda.
Please refer to the Calendar of Events and Assigned Roles, and looking forward to seeing you on January 24th!
Best wishes,
