“A Toast to Rabbie Burns” was our theme for the evening, and what a great turnout we had – especially to see our returning member Matthew and returning guest Troy. We also welcomed our first-time guests, Joy, Kanako, Tracy, Bob, and Earl. It was a fun and very full evening, and we trust you enjoyed your visit to Tillicum.
Congratulations to Rob, who was inducted into Tillicum. We look forward to hearing your presentations in the upcoming weeks Rob!
In fact, this meeting showcased some of our newer members in major roles, including:
Neil, who, as heralding from Scotland, was an appropriate choice for our Chairperson. What a wonderful, professional job you did in your first-time role as Chair. We learned a number of interesting facts about the Poet Laureate of Scotland and thank you Neil for your great contribution.
Thanks too to Trish, our Grammarian for presenting a rather unusual word of the day: Hie (v.) meaning to go quickly, to hasten. Example: “In the summer I hie off to a little stone cottage in Wales” and this example was taken directly from the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Hie was mentioned a number of times and Trish, who also was Jokemaster, gave an excellent Grammarian’s report at the end of the evening. Well done!!
Susan, who is also a new member, handled the Table Topics Master role with such wit and aplomb. Great job Susan, and great situations relating to Rabbie Burns and New Year traditions. It was Professor Alexi (a.k.a. Alex) who won the Best Table Topics Speaker Award for his excellent explanation of the correlation between Russia and Scotland and how it was derived, complete with Vodka and Scotch Whiskey!!
Andrew, another new member, stepped into the role of Toastmaster on short notice. Well done Andrew - you never cease to amaze us with your assuredness and humour. A wonderful job of bridging and keeping in with the theme of the evening.
