TILLICUM TOASTMASTERS CONTINUES TO BE A PRESIDENT'S DISTINGUISHED CLUB!

Meeting of Monday, March 14, 2005

There were shamrocks galore (courtesy of Candace) this evening to honour St. Patrick’s Day, and many members wore green, or even challenged us to think they were wearing green!!

It was good to see Roxy back at the club again, and to welcome her friend Joe, our guest for the evening. Hope you both enjoyed our O’Tillicum hospitality!!

Candace was the Charming Chair for this evening, and came well prepared with green agendas and sticky green shamrocks for anyone who had Irish ancestry. As the Irish seemed to play a role somewhere in everyone’s life, all of us were entitled to this novelty!!

Judy as Grammarian enlightened us with the word of the day: finical (adj.) fussy, particular, fastidious, e.g., “He’s so finical, there’s no pleasing him”. While the word was hardly used, Judy (easy seeing she’s Treasurer!) certainly caught people with their uhms and ahs, so we received quite the donations, as there was no word of the day to offset our discrepancies!!

Susan, in true St. Patrick’s Day form, led Table Topics with five excellent scenarios surrounding Irish mythology (leprechauns), dancing (Riverdance), genetic distinctions (red hair/fiery temper), customs (Blarney Stone), but it was the marketing of green beer that really caught our attention, well and truly described by Maurice, who walked off with the Best Table Topics Speaker Award. Congratulations to you all on great impromptu speaking!

Mary K was our only speaker this evening and delivered a wonderful explanation of Club Roles and Responsibilities, in the second of two speeches towards her Competent Leader. Congratulations Mary on now becoming CTM, CL. With this CL, Tillicum Toastmasters has now achieved ten goals!!! Mary also won the Best Speaker Award.

Mary’s entry was not evaluated, and it was Rosemary who won the Best Evaluator Award for her evaluation of Table Topics.

Maureen, as Quizmaster, ran overtime with nine questions because she wanted to deplete the stock of nine O Henry bars – in keeping with the o’evening!

Thanks to George for his General Evaluation and to Joe, our guest, who composed a Limerick for the Closing Thought, read by Candace!! Extremely well done and much appreciated!!

As an ongoing reminder:
PLEASE TAKE NOTE!

Membership renewals are due before March 31, 2005, and Judy, our Treasurer, has e-mailed invoices and presented them in person. The March 21st meeting is the last one before this deadline, so please ensure Judy receives your payment before March 31st, as the following meeting is Monday, April 4.

We again remind you that on Monday, March 21st we will hold the International Speech and Evaluation Contests so do mark your calendar for this event. It is educational and entertaining and Rosemary and Neil will be looking for your cooperation and contributions. For those not participating, do come along, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

We even have prizes to give away – so ensure you come along and see what’s out there for you!!

A lovely gift you can receive,
If attending the contests you concede
To come and join in all the fun
And hear contestants one by one!

Tillicum members are in the ploy
With a musical gift they can enjoy
Perhaps they'll be for first-come-first-serve...
So join us at Tillicum on March Twenty-first!

Do check the Calendar of Events and Assigned Roles to see what’s in store for you at Tillicum! After March 21st, the Assigned Roles for April to June will also be posted.

Look forward to seeing you on March 21st – support the contestants and don’t forget to bring your cheque for Judy!

Best wishes,
