Meeting of Monday, March 7, 2005

What a Wonderful Evening!!!

While the theme tonight was My Favourite Books, the real stars of the evening were the Speechcrafters, who graduated from their Speechcraft 8-week long course. Lydia, who hosted the course, was the very able Chair of the meeting and kept everything to time, because we had such a full and varied agenda!

Everyone gave a warm first-visit welcome to the Speechcrafters: Bonnie, Denise, Jean, Sydney, Kuldip, Raul, and Young, and they all received our admiration for such a professional performance of their roles.

Jean as Grammarian, gave us the word of the day: Argy-bargy (n): a lively discussion, argument, dispute — and this was well used, although not always correctly pronounced! Jean’s report was excellent as she methodically kept counts of uhms and ahs during the meeting.

Sydney, in using the timing lights for the first time, gave an excellent account of each member’s time – so well done!

Raul, as Quizmaster, had us doing the chicken dance – something we have never done at Tillicum – before and during the question and answer session! Of course, we all had fun with this!

Kuldip delivered a lovely inspiration, and Bonnie was a very humorous Jokemaster.

Denise, as Table Topics Master, asked five wonderful questions related to books and writing, and the winners were so good that Anita, Rosemary and Troy tied for the Best Table Topics Award. Kudos to Troy, who was only inducted last week and made a remarkable Table Topics presentation!

Jarrod delivered his third speech (calling on the help of Lutz and Andrew) and two of our newest members presented their Ice Breakers. The Best Speaker Award went to Susan, with the Best Evaluator Award going to Andrew for his evaluation of Antonella’s speech. These new speakers are so good; we are looking forward to seeing them give upcoming project deliveries.

Young concluded the evening with a sincere Closing Thought, which was so appropriate to a wonderful night!

As an ongoing reminder:
