Such a great turnout for tonight’s meeting, especially as it was a return to the club since our regular meeting of March 14 – thanks to all of you for attending, especially Joe, a returning guest, and Karen, who made a special visit as Andrew’s friend and member of Rocky Point Club in Port Moody. Great to see both of you!
“All That Jazz” was the theme and the meeting was wonderfully chaired by Trish. A member since January, Trish conducted the evening with professionalism and bridged throughout with knowledge on Duke Ellington and Jazz musicians. Well done!
In the General Evaluation I was remiss in not mentioning Roxy, who was a charming Greeter, and Mihaela, our Sergeant-at-Arms, for her efficacy in setting up the room and preparing refreshments, all of which was done at the time of my arrival. So thanks to you both!
Kuldip was the Grammarian with the word of the day: Mesmerize, meaning hypnotic state. Example: The dynamic and mesmerizing music of Duke Ellington is forever etched in Jazz. Great to see you taking on roles Kuldip and glad you can make it to the club when your schedule allows!
Susan timed the evening so well, Jarrod inspired us, and Maurice set out to have us groan at his Jokes!!
Lydia was Table Topics Master, with very good questions all related to music in general and jazz in particular.
Toastmaster Hal conducted the second half of the meeting and our three speakers Mary, Antonella and Neil gave us all such great deliveries, it was hard to choose among them. Neil, with his beautiful rendition of “Good Morning Mr. Fraser” captivated our votes and won the Best Speaker Award, and Barb won the Best Evaluator Award for Neil’s evaluation. Maureen danced off with the Best Table Topics Award.
Speaking of Barb, extra congratulations to her for the wonderful article she wrote on Robert’s Rules of Order, published in spectacular form in the March 2005 issue of the Toastmaster. Thank you so much!
Another fun evening, and we left with the reminder that next Monday, April 11, Tillicum will host the Area 80 International Speech and Evaluation Contests. So do join us as we hear contestants from Tillicum and the other clubs in Area 80. It will be a very worthwhile evening!!
The Calendar of Events and Assigned Roles have been updated; do check them out to see what’s ahead at Tillicum.
Hope to see you on April 11th.
Best wishes,
