Meeting of Monday, May 30, 2005

Following a two-week hiatus, we had a good turnout of members and welcomed our returning guests Shantra and Kumar, with his son Naveen. Not only did you visit but you also joined! Congratulations and Welcome to Tillicum, Shantra and Kumar; we look forward to helping you with your Toastmaster experience and are glad to have you as club members.

Jarrod, in his first-time role as Chair, did a great job leading the meeting, the theme of which was My Hero/Heroine. The round-table introductions demonstrated that many of us share the same views, with some heroes and heroines being mothers and fathers, math teacher, Mahatma Gandhi, and Mother Teresa. An interesting theme, kept well throughout the meeting.

Neil as Grammarian provided the word of the day: Succour (n.): help given in time of need, and as a verb: to give such help. Example: Mother Teresa gave succour to the people of Albania and Calcutta.

Margot, as Table Topics Master, presented five scenarios using pictures that evoked hypothetical situations around heroism. It was Neil, who humorously described the rescue of a baby about to be thrown off a mountain top by the Abominable Snowman, who won the Best Table Topics Award. Lydia won the Best Evaluator Award for her very good evaluation of Table Topics. Congratulations to Neil and Lydia!

Don’t forget the Night Out at the Bavaria Haus; this has been arranged for Wednesday, June 22, 2005, still lots of time to advise me if you wish to attend – it should be a delicious and fun night!!

Please refer to the Calendar of Events and Assigned Roles to see what’s happening in June.

Look forward to seeing you next Monday, June 6th.
Best wishes,
