TILLICUM TOASTMASTERS CONTINUES TO BE A PRESIDENT'S DISTINGUISHED CLUB!

Meeting of Monday, May 9, 2005

What a full house we had tonight and especial thanks for visiting to our guests Shannon, Shanti, Kumar, Chuck, and Robbie. We trust you enjoyed your visit!

Our newest member Joe was voted on and inducted into Tillicum Toastmasters. Welcome Joe, and we trust you will enjoy your Toastmaster experience!

Connections was the theme, very well chaired by our president Alex. We were all connected in one way or another and the theme was truly represented during the whole meeting.

Antonella as our Grammarian gave us the rather ominous word of the day, Ignominy (n) disgrace or humiliation. Example: “Due to his dishonorable behaviour amongst his family, neighbours and community, he brought ignominy to everyone who knew and supported him.”

Trish as Table Topics Master was not at all ignominious, as she had a wonderful array of topics for five unsuspecting volunteers, showing each one photographs without headlines or storyline and requesting the members to relay the story behind the photograph – such a way to connect!! It was our YAM (Young Associate Member) Susannah, who charmed us with her story of the Grouse Grind and the hardships endured by the “man in the picture” (who turned out to be a marathoner), who won the Best Table Topics Speaker Award!! Well done Susannah – such a realistic and vivid imagination!!

With three speakers, we had a lengthy and informative speech session. Well done Troy on your Icebreaker, Alex on Speaking to Inform, and Rosemary for your Storytelling. It was to Rosemary that the Best Speaker Award went and Lydia received the Best Evaluator Award for her evaluation of Rosemary’s speech.

A great night with lots of activity, and that may also be said for next week when the theme is Seen any good movies lately? and chaired by Antonella.

Don’t forget that this weekend 13-15th is the District Conference in Victoria.
May 14th is Speechcraft at New Westminster Secondary School, and be sure to step up to the challenge and support the candidates next Monday, 16th, when we have the Club Officer elections.

It’s time for a Night out in June; I have sent out e-mails on this, so please let me know which Wednesday suits you, and we’ll take it from there!

As usual, keep checking the Assigned Roles and Calendar of Events to see what’s ahead.

See you on May 16th!
Best wishes,
