Another full house at tonight’s meeting, and it was good to see Susannah and Naveen (our YAMs - Young Associate Members) and to welcome our first-time guest Colin. Thank you for visiting Colin; we trust you enjoyed the evening and learned a little more about Toastmasters!
We were also very pleased to welcome veteran Toastmasters:
Judy, Area 82 Governor and member of Speakeasy Club in Burnaby, and
Mimi and Katrina, both Speakeasy members and also founding members of Division J’s new Advanced Club: Community Impact Speakers. Both Katrina and Mimi spoke about the club and encourage members with the Competent Toastmaster (CTM) designation and higher to join this advanced club. Thank you for your valuable input, and glad to hear that you all enjoyed your first visit to Tillicum.
The appropriate theme for this evening’s meeting was In Praise of Fathers. In her first-time role as Chair, Anita put together a well run meeting, made all the lovelier by her gift of silk white roses for members to wear if their fathers had died. It was apparent very quickly that many of us missed our fathers and spoke affectionately of them and the contribution fathers have made in our lives. Thank you again Anita for your chairmanship, bridging and thoughtfulness.
Kuldip, as Grammarian, gave us the word of the day: Obeisance (n.): A gesture of respect or deference, e.g., a bow of the head. Example: The polite children greeted their father with obeisance and courtesy.
Troy kept to the theme of the evening as Table Topics Master providing five scenarios in which our fathers played a key role. Congratulations to Carol, who won the Best Table Topics Award for her rendition of her father rescuing her from an electrifying situation (ripping out the radio while she was in the bath) and then saving her from possible drowning in Hawaii. Your childhood seemed very eventful and glad your father was close at hand!!
Trish, in starting on her ATM Bronze, won the Best Speaker Award for her humorous delivery of some of the perils that being tall can present. Not too many “growth points” needed for you Trish, and you did a wonderful job!! Colleen, for her evaluation of Trish’s speech, and Maureen for evaluating Table Topics, both shared the Best Evaluator Award. Congratulations to all winners!!
There is officer training on June 21 at the Library, and do join us at the Bavaria Haus on 6th Street, for our Night Out on June 22nd. Please contact Maureen if you wish to attend.
Thanks to Neil (VP Education Assistant) for providing the Assigned Roles for July to September. These and the Calendar of Events have been updated, so please refer to them to see what’s in store for the Summer at Tillicum!!
Look forward to seeing you on June 20th!
Best wishes,
