Again, another wonderful turnout for our meeting and we welcomed our returning guest Mircea, and first-time guests Dave and Tom. Naveen, one of our YAMs and Kumar’s son, also joined us for the evening. Glad to hear from our guests that you enjoyed your visit, and what a full evening it was!!
Neil, as our very capable Chair, led the meeting, the theme of which was “What art means to me". Neil prepared so well for this meeting and used excellent bridging skills between each role. Thanks too Neil for your forethought in providing a connect-the-letters page for us to complete and discuss during the Round Table Introductions! A nice touch to a very good job!
Roxy, in venturing into club roles, was the Grammarian and she gave us the most appropriate word of the day: Perception: mental grasp of objects, qualities, etc., by means of the senses; awareness, comprehension. Example: “My perception of reality may be quite different from my neighbour’s.” Well done Roxy, for giving us the w.o.d. that was used profusely during the evening!
Grace, as Table Topics Master, chose four members to speak to various issues on art, ranging from cartoons, Egyptian hieroglyphics and fashion, and it was to George that the Best Table Topics Speaker Award was given for his poignant talk on the possibility of a memorial to the victims of the recent London bombings. Jarrod, in his first-time role as Table Topics Evaluator, did an outstanding job and gave good accolades and critiquing to the members. Well done Jarrod!
Rosemary was our speaker for the evening and delivered The Touching Story from the Storytelling manual. Nicely done Rosemary, as usual, and you are well on your way to achieving your Advanced Toastmaster Silver award. Meanwhile, you take home another Best Speaker Award to add to your growing collection!
George evaluated Rosemary’s speech so well, and it was not surprising that he shared the Best Evaluator Award with Jarrod. Congratulations to all winners!!
As next Monday, August 1st, is a holiday there will be no meeting, but please join us on Monday, August 8th when we return to the club.
Please make a note to attend our picnic that will be held the following Monday, August 15th at Queens Park. This has proven to be a fun night where we meet socially and perhaps have a trivia section to keep us on our toes!! This invitation is extended to members and guests.
Do click on the Assigned Roles and Calendar of Events to see what’s in store at Tillicum.
See you on August 8th!
Best wishes,
