TILLICUM TOASTMASTERS CONTINUES TO BE A PRESIDENT'S DISTINGUISHED CLUB!

Meeting of Monday, August 22, 2005

Tonight saw another good turnout following a week’s absence from the club. We welcomed our guests: Thomas (our YAM with his mother Rosemary), Dianne, Stella, Jack, and Chris. Thank you for joining us and we are pleased to hear you enjoyed the evening. Thank you especially to Chris, who completed his membership application form and is now the newest member of Tillicum Toastmasters! Welcome Chris and we hope you will enjoy your Toastmaster experience.

Trish was our most amiable and confident Chair for the evening, the theme of which was Childhood Memories. Many memories were shared by members and guests alike and this was a fun topic for discussion.

Antonella as Grammarian gave us the most appropriate word of the day: Rambunctious (adj.) unruly, noisy, very active, and hard to control usually as a result of excitement or youthful energy. Example: “Johnny’s rambunctiousness during the day caused his mother to be heavily medicated!" Of course, the w.o.d. was put to good use during the evening.

Jarrod as Table Topics Master presented four scenarios all relating to the senses. Alex won the Best Table Topics Award for his portrayal of Touch, when, as a youngster in a freezing Montreal winter, he took up his brother’s dare to lick ice-covered railings! Alex was very animated and used the lectern to represent the railings while he mimicked the dilemma in which he found himself, and was rescued by his mother and boiling water to release him from the icy grasp!! Well done Alex, and gathering from Barb’s comments as the TT Evaluator, you were not alone in this childhood pursuit!!

We had two speakers both presenting the 9th project from the C & L manual – Persuade with Power. Grace spoke on Employment Standards and Neil spoke on Responsibility. The Best Speaker Award went to Neil and his evaluator Maureen won the Best Evaluator Award. Congratulations to all!

Lydia will be chair of the August 29 meeting, so please assist her as she calls on you to fill meeting roles. This will be the last abbreviated meeting of the summer and in September we will return to the 2-hour agenda to include the Business Meeting, Quizmaster, etc.

Please check the Assigned Roles and Calendar of Events to see what’s in store at Tillicum!

See you on August 29th!
Best wishes,
