TILLICUM TOASTMASTERS CONTINUES TO BE A PRESIDENT'S DISTINGUISHED CLUB!

Meeting of Monday, September 12, 2005

We returned to our usual full agenda this evening, and had a wonderful gathering of members and guests. We welcomed Leona and Lucette, and Kuldip (who visited from another club), and Ken, our returning guest. Thank you for visiting and good to hear that you enjoyed your visit. Ken also tendered his membership form this evening, so welcome to Tillicum!! We hope you will enjoy your Toastmaster experience.

Two of our latest members, Dave and Chris, were inducted into the club, and we wish them much success as members of Tillicum Toastmasters.

The theme for the meeting was “People who have made a difference in my life” and the meeting was so ably and graciously chaired by Candace. Well done and good to see you back again in fine fettle!

Margot, as our Grammarian, gave us a most appropriate word of the day: Pedagogue (n.) a school teacher, educator. Example: “Quite often a pedagogue is an example of someone who makes a difference in people’s lives.” The word was eagerly voiced by everyone during many of the roles in the evening and made a great addition to our w.o.d. collection! Thanks Margot on a great job!

Table Topics according to this theme were thought up by Jarrod, as Table Topics Master, and what an amusing assortment he had for us!! From molecules in water, to spokes, to pond scum, and chicken noodles, we had an unusual array, and it was David, as a brand new Toastmaster, who won the Best Table Topics Award, for his well-informed and cleverly described version of Mel Gibson’s left eyebrow. Yes, you really had to be there!!

It would be remiss of me not to mention Chris, who as newly inducted, also rose to the challenge and delivered a super table topics answer to the origin of the spoke!! Great job by all contributors on describing these not so run-of-the mill scenarios!

Rosemary as our program speaker and in pursuing another CTM, made a wonderful visual aids presentation on Robert’s Rules of Order. Thanks too for the handout on this Rosemary, which we can all use especially when chairing the Business Meeting.

Our two evaluators, Maureen for Table Topics and Maurice for Rosemary’s speech tied for the Best Evaluator Award. Well done to all winners!

Alex will chair the next meeting, so please refer to the Calendar of Events and Assigned Roles to see what’s ahead at Tillicum.

See you on the 19th!
Best wishes,
