Alex, freshly returned from his Caribbean holiday, took the following notes in my absence:
Tonight's meeting was ably chaired by Jarrod, who had to do some last minute substitutions due to no-shows. Thanks to Ken and Brian for stepping in on such short notice. The theme was "When I was a school kid".
Many people shared their school day memories, with most people using the word-of-the-day, Puerile (adj.), meaning "juvenile, immature, childish".
There was a good discussion during the Business Meeting about whether there should be time limits imposed to qualify for the weekly awards. This topic was tabled to a future meeting, as there wasn't a quorum present to vote on any changes.
Jarrod utilized the deck of Table Topics cards, which generated five completely different and interesting, topics. David C emerged as the Best Table Topics winner with very entertaining reasons for why "The Joy of Sex" is his favorite book. Troy did a great job evaluating Table Topics for his first time.
Following the intermission, Toastmaster Neil introduced the two very experienced speakers of the evening, both of whom were working from advanced manuals. Mary read a delightful Lewis Carroll poem using wonderful timing and voice variety. Rosemary gave an informative presentation on coaching and took us through a role play with her student, Troy. This was followed by a group discussion. Both speakers were great, as always, with Mary walking away with the Best Speaker award. Alex won Best Evaluator for his evaluation of Mary's speech.
Colleen's insightful general evaluation rounded out the evening, followed by Tom's closing exhortation to us to "Pay it Forward" by performing gratuitous acts of kindness.
Sounds like a great evening Alex, and thanks again!
I look forward to being with you on the 21st and leave you with a reminder that we will be accepting non-perishable items for the food bank when we hold our Christmas Party on Monday, December 12th. Meanwhile, please check the Assigned Roles and Calendar of Events to see what's happening at Tillicum!
Best wishes,
