Brian was our very able Chair this evening, the theme being “The vehicle I’d rather be driving”. The round table introductions indicated that many members and guests enjoyed their current vehicle but had definite choices on earlier and present models, citing all the benefits that their dream cars would fulfill!! A great theme and well received.
Carol our Grammarian chose the word of the day: Accelerate (v.) meaning to speed up; example: "The Chairman chose the word of the day to accelerate the process." Used with its variations too, the word of the day was a popular choice!!
During the Business Meeting, chaired by Tom, the motion tabled from the November 14th meeting was withdrawn by the member and seconder. Therefore, we will still record times of speeches and evaluations for the purpose of voting.
Sue as our Table Topics Master kept to the theme of the evening with her five scenarios all so well played out! Tom, who spoke of his newly-released book “Who said I’d rather be driving”, won the Best Table Topics Award, for explaining his wishes for a chauffeur, his reluctancy to drive and annoyance at honking drivers, all rounded off to make this a very enjoyable table topics answer!! Well done to all five members!
Alex as Toastmaster introduced two program speakers, Neil and Mary. We are to congratulate Neil on his 10th speech and on achieving his Competent Toastmaster Award. An excellent project to conclude your first manual and we look forward to hearing more of your delightful speeches. Speaking from the Advanced Manual, Mary delivered a moving monologue which earned her the Best Speaker Award. Maureen won the Best Evaluator award for her evaluation of Neil’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!
Lydia had attended the District 21 Conference in mid-November and handed out ribbon awards for achievements during 2004-2005. Alex, as President received ribbons for having all seven executive members attend training and for the club having more than 30 members. The club last year was President’s Distinguished, and a ribbon for this achievement is forthcoming.
Lutz for his role as Area 81 Governor was also awarded a certificate and a Vancouver Icons calendar – cleverly disguised in a CD cover!!!
Maureen earned the VP Public Relations Merit Ribbon for the award-winning Tillicum Toastmasters’ web site and a beautiful certificate for bringing Division J to Distinguished status. As well, she also received the Vancouver Icons calendar.
Lots of applause and sincere congratulations to these recipients on a job well done!
Next time you’re at the club please indicate what you will bring as pot luck for the Christmas party on December 12th; the more variety we have the nicer our party will be!! As well, please consider bringing non-perishable donations for the food bank.
Maureen will be Chair on November 28, the theme being “Reasons to be thankful”. Do check the Assigned Roles and Calendar of Events to see what’s coming up next at Tillicum!!
Best wishes,
