Meeting of Monday, November 28, 2005

It was a dark and frosty night, but this did not deter a packed room of members from attending tonight’s meeting! We also welcomed our first-time guest Chris (friend of Dave and Tom) and are pleased to learn that you hope to join us next Monday!

Maureen chaired the evening, the theme of which was “Reasons to be thankful”.

Barb as Grammarian offered the word of the day: Philanthropy (n); Philanthropist (n): The effort or inclination to increase human well-being, as by charitable aid. Example: “Talk of an upcoming election has turned Paul Martin into a philanthropist.” Philanthropic (adj.) and variations of the word were widely used during the roundtable introductions and throughout the evening.

Our newer members really came to the fore this evening, heralded by David A. as Table Topics Master. What a wonderful thought-provoking variety of scenarios he offered, all so well responded to by the five members called into action! However, it was Leona, one of our newest members, who won the Best Table Topics Award for her in-depth description of the loss of revenue to the farmers in the Saskatchewan wheat belt, her knowledge of farm equipment and its cost, and a wonderful opening, body and conclusion! Well done Leona!

We had three program speakers: again our newer members Dave and Tom, with their 2nd and 3rd speeches respectively, and Rosemary with her 10th Speech towards her Advanced Toastmaster Silver award. Dave won the Best Speaker Award for his eloquence and delivery of a speech on Basic Self-Defense, and Maurice won the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Rosemary’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!

Especial congratulations go to Rosemary on achieving her ATMS – what an absolutely fabulous job you have done in moving up so quickly through the ranks of Toastmasterdom!! Well done Rosemary, and we look forward to hearing your delivery of projects towards your Advanced Toastmaster Gold.

Just a reminder that Monday December 5th will be the last meeting of the year. So come one, come all and let’s have a ball, as Troy in his first-time role Chairs the meeting, the theme of which is “My best ever present” – so put your thinking caps on and let’s see the year out with a great meeting!

Another reminder to check your pantry for non-perishable items to bring with you for the food bank at the Christmast Party on December 12th!

Look forward to seeing you on the 5th!

Best wishes,
