Meeting of Monday, February 20, 2006

Another fine turnout tonight and we welcomed our first-time guest Brad and returning guest Shee (Sheila). Thank you for joining us and for your positive comments.

Troy, as Chair, ran a very smooth meeting, the theme of which was, Wouldn’t this be a good day for a stat holiday! Lots of input on this one, and we all agreed we could do with a holiday to beat the winter blahs and tie us over until Easter!

Grammarian Leona chose the word of the day: Sublime (adj.) exalted, noble, having awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur, glorious, splendid. Example: It was a day sublime when he married his Queen! Used so often during the evening, this word of the day was in keeping with the theme.

Table Topics Master Ken called on five unsuspecting ones to speak for two minutes on very good scenarios relating to celebrities who had birthday or anniversaries on February 20. From politicians to Vincent Massey, Ken extended very good situations, and John and Maureen tied for the Best Table Topics Award.

Chris W delivered his 2nd speech on his compunction to TV (with its negatives and positives) and Mary, in almost completing her ATM Bronze, told a delightful story of her visit to Belize years ago – with a romantic twist – and it was Mary who won the Best Speaker Award. In delivering a wonderful evaluation on Chris’ speech, Tom won the Best Evaluator Award. Congratulations to all winners.

Two notes to mention: the International Speech and Evaluation Contests will be held on Monday, March 27, and we hope to get together for Sunday brunch on April 2nd. Two dates to mark on your Calendar!

Please support Rosemary as she prepares to chair the February 27th meeting, and help her complete agenda roles.

See you on the 27th!
Best wishes,
