Tom, in his first-time role as Chair, did a wonderful job leading the evening and bridging throughout, the theme being “My favourite figure in history”. Comments included Raquel Welch (thanks Dave!) but most people referred to historical figures in war, novels and the arts (possibly the intent of the theme!).
Maureen as Grammarian gave the word of the day: Appealing (adj.): attraction, charm, fascination, alluring. Example: “They found his strength and courage in adversity very appealing and for this he won great recognition”. Of course a very easy word to use and this it was, greatly during the evening.
George as Table Topics Master approached four unsuspecting members and presented scenarios based on historical figures, and it was Antonella with an endearing and accurate account of the earlier and later life of Elvis Presley, who won the Best Table Topics Award.
Just a reminder that the International Speech and Evaluation Contests will be held on Monday, March 27 (please contact Rosemary if you wish to be a contestant or to assume a role).
We hope to get together for Sunday brunch on April 2nd, so please contact Maureen if you wish to attend. We shall meet about 11 a.m. at The Pantry on 6th Street. This allows time for morning activities, brunch and still time for afternoon activities!
“Beware the Ides of March” – should we?” is the theme next Monday, March 13th, so please help Colleen as Chair to fulfill the roles. As St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated on Friday, March 17, wear something appropriate if you wish, bring along a shamrock or two, and share the Luck of the Irish!!

See you on the 13th!
Best wishes,
