Good to be back at our meeting schedule again, and we welcomed our guest Vikram – thanks for visiting and pleased to hear that you enjoyed your evening with us.
Maurice so very ably chaired the meeting, the theme of which was “April Fool” – great job Maurice in doing this and for your trivia surrounding the roots of this activity and snippets of fun throughout the evening. Maurice also took on the role of Toastmaster – again so very ably done!
Antonella as Grammarian gave us the word of the day: Effervescence to show high spirits or emotion, to show liveliness, sparkling, bubbly; e.g., “Her effervescent personality reminded me of a glass of champagne!” This word of the day and its derivatives were well used during the evening.
Maureen, who chaired the Business Meeting, made special mention of Tom winning the International Speech Contest at the Division J Contest on April 9. Tom now represents Division J at the District Conference in Prince George, May 5-7. Congratulations Tom and keep up the terrific work you are doing!!
Troy was humorous as Table Topics Master, quoting some of his pranks, one especially was spreading Saran wrap across the toilet while making sure there were no creases – still laughing at this picture!!! An assortment of April Fools scenarios were offered to the five brave members who came to the lectern, and it was Anita who took the Best Table Topics Award for her explanation of a friend who entered a dance contest – requesting financial help for the 21 costume changes he proposed to make! Well done Anita!!
Two speakers this evening: Ken with his third project who demonstrated his prowess in singing to demonstrate The Power of the Voice, and Mary who relayed three silly stories for her project from the Storytelling Manual. Well done both speakers; Mary took home the Best Speaker Award and John the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Ken’s speech.
We return to the club on Monday, April 24, with Maureen as chair, the theme being The Music of Our Lives.
No meeting on April 17, Easter Monday. Wishing you a peaceful and blessed Eastertide, and look forward to seeing you on the 24th!
