Tonight we welcomed our first-time guests: Erica, Julie, Amen, Calum, and returning guests Ingrid and Sheila. Good to have you with us and thanks for visiting!
Maureen chaired the evening, the theme of which was “The Music of Our Lives” – a wonderful theme to which members and guests adhered during the evening.
Tom as Grammarian chose the word of the day: Virtuoso (n.): a person with notable technical skills in the performance of music or an expert in some other area of life. Example: “Many of Jane’s students were good musicians but Timothy was a true virtuoso.” Used quite well during the evening, this was an excellent choice of word to complement the theme. Great job Tom!
Table Topics Master, Anita, certainly did her homework to present five well-thought out scenarios describing different types of music throughout the years and challenged five “contestants” to think on their feet. Lots of good thinking went on, and it was Carol who won the Best Table Topics Award for her description of the types of music that inspire her. Nice job to Anita, Carol and all the contestants!
Two program speakers this evening: Mary working towards her ATM Bronze gave a very poignant speech which spoke of the bereavement of a family member when he was just a young man – your singing added so much wealth to your speech too Mary, quite inspiring. Rosemary enthralled us with her project from the Storytelling manual as she delivered her interpretation of Dickens’ “Oliver Twist” – two very professional speakers who both accepted challenging roles. The Best Speaker Award went to Mary, and the Best Evaluator Award to Maurice for his evaluation of Rosemary’s speech.
A good meeting following a two-week absence from the club.
We look forward to getting together next Monday, May 1st, when Rosemary is Chair. Please assist her in completing the roles for the meeting, and do check the Assigned Roles and Calendar of Events to see what’s ahead at Tillicum.
See you on May 1st!
Best wishes,
