What a night! Our two guests joined Tillicum Toastmasters: Noriko, our returning guest joined as she had indicated, and our first-time guest Sahra-Lea (who remembers visiting Tillicum in 1994) also arrived, intending to join! Welcome to Tillicum Toastmasters both Noriko and Sahra-Lea. We trust you will both enjoy your experience with us and look forward to assisting you on your journey!
Lutz was our oh-so-capable Chair this evening, the theme being “Graduation: What I wish I’d Known!” A great theme at this time of year, and one to which we could all relate. Lutz kept the meeting very much on time and on theme, so that it flowed smoothly and effortlessly.
Good to see Chris W back again, and especially as our Grammarian. Chris gave us the word of the day: Pontificate (vi.): to speak about something in a knowing and self-important way, especially when not qualified to do so. While we tried not to pontificate too much during the evening, we did use the word of the day with its derivatives and kept to the theme of the meeting!
Mary as our Table Topics Master really played the part in donning her Graduation Cap and presenting scrolls to five unsuspecting graduates. Subjects ranged from attending reunions to paying and not paying attention in class, how to overcome barriers to success and learning from an academic life. It was Tom who spoke on his electives that earned him the Best Table Topics Award – he chose Typing, not simply to learn to type but just to be around the girls!! Looks like it stood him well, because now his fingers fly over his laptop and the girls are just a distant memory!! Well done to all graduates!
Susan was our program speaker this evening and earned the Best Speaker Award for her portrayal of a recent trip to an Asian island “paradise” – nicely done Susan, but glad to see you back safe and sound!! Troy won the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Susan’s speech.
Incidentally, Maureen is still asking for names for “Pirates …” on July 9, and will continue to collect names and choice of drinks on June17th and 24th. Only two weeks to go before we break for the July long weekend, and then it’s the movie on the 9th! We return to meetings on Monday, July 10.
Tom is your Chair for next week’s meeting “My Father’s Influence”, so please help him in completing roles for this meeting.
See you on the 19th!
Best wishes,
