What a great turnout this evening! We welcomed many guests: visiting us for the first time were Amber, Carmen and Karen, and our returning guests Julie, James and Harvey. Thanks so much for your very positive comments and we look forward to seeing you at future meetings.
Harvey, a friend of Jim, has been a Toastmaster for some time and has lived in Winnipeg and Los Angeles. He now calls North Vancouver his home and has decided that he enjoys his visits to Tillicum so much that he will transfer his membership to our club. Thank you Harvey and welcome! We truly benefit from the contributions you have made thus far when called upon to fill roles and know that this appreciation will continue!
James, on his second visit, signed his application form – so thank you too James for choosing Tillicum as your Toastmasters’ club – we hope you will benefit richly from your time with us!
Tom, who has ventured so far into Toastmasters in a short time, was our very able and congenial Chair this evening, the theme of which was so appropriate: “My Father’s Influence”. Nice bridging between roles and thanks for keeping to the theme of the evening.
Susan, as Grammarian, gave the word of the day: Extol (v.): to praise highly or lavishly, laud, to proclaim excellence, e.g., “Tears come to my eyes when I extol the virtues of my later father.” Used well and often during the evening, extol was so appropriate for this evening’s theme. Thanks Susan for catching uhms and ahs, thus lending a little more income to our petty cash!

Especial mention is made of Sahra-Lea, our new member who, in just signing up on June 12, gladly volunteered to be our Inspirator this evening. How courageous of her to inspire us so touchingly with her thoughts on Fatherhood and her own father. Well done Sahra-Lea, thank you so much.
Rosemary as Table Topics Master was well-prepared and offered four scenarios, from fathering in the 21st century to what did your father know best? It was this latter response from Antonella that earned her the Best Table Topics Award. Well done Antonella for your concise response!
We had two program speakers this evening, both delivering their #4 project: Chris speaking of his father’s influence and Troy D., speaking on the conspiracy surrounding the tragedy of 911, which earned Troy the Best Speaker Award. Harvey, one of our latest members, willingly volunteered for the role of evaluator and gave a shining evaluation of Chris’ speech, and won the Best Evaluator Award. This was a great evening of speeches and congratulations to all winners.
Next week, June 26, will be the last meeting of this year. Maureen is Chair, the very appropriate topic being, “In the Garden”. Please assist Maureen in completing the roles for this meeting and send off the year in grand fashion!
As well, Pirates of the Caribbean will be shown on July 9, the day before we return for our first meeting of the new year 2006-2007, so let Maureen know if you and your friends wish to attend!
The Assigned Roles and Calendar of Events will soon be posted for July to September. Just a note: Monday July 31st will be Tillicum’s Picnic in the Park – no meeting at the hall but lots of fun in the park, so keep tuned for more information during July!
See you on the 26th!
Best wishes,
