Meeting of Monday, July 17, 2006

Another beautiful evening to tempt us outside, but that did not stop a good turnout of members and guests! We welcomed our first-time guest Nimmie and returning guest Collette. We were also pleased to have with us our newly-elected Division J Governor, Sanjay. Thank you all for attending. Glad to hear you enjoyed the evening and offered positive and warm comments.

BBQ Season was our theme for the evening, most pleasantly chaired by Susan – complete with BBQ apron and tongues! Susan kept to the theme of the evening interspersed with good bridging techniques.

Brian as our always-humorous Grammarian chose the word of the day: aversion (n.) meaning dislike. Surprisingly, this word of the day was said infrequently during the evening, begging the question: did we have an aversion to aversion??

Only four table topics this evening, well hosted by Ken, who brought candidates to the lectern with their respective scenarios ranging from their best BBQ recipe, to which type of BBQ to operate. The latter, well demonstrated by Maurice explaining the pros and cons of coal, gas and electric barbeques, won him the Best Table Topics Award!

Our two program speakers were Tom and Rosemary. Tom’s project was the question-and-answer type in which the audience's role was that of the media. Tom is a realtor and based his presentation on two situations that have recently occurred in the real estate industry. Rosemary spoke from the Interpretive Reading manual and delivered a two-actor play. Both projects were well done. The Best Speaker Award went to Rosemary; the Best Evaluator Award went to Maureen for her evaluation of Rosemary’s speech. Congratulations to all winners.

A few notes for you:
Saturday, July 29: Elvis is coming to town so if you wish to see him (and Patsy Cline) please contact Maureen. We have secured a group rate of only $20 per person for his show at the Royal City Star Riverboat Casino, at the waterfront in New Westminster.
Monday, July 31: we have our annual picnic in Queens Park beginning 6:30 p.m. Please enter on the sign-up sheet at the club your choice of goodies for the picnic. Members and guests are invited to both of these events.

Next week, July 24, our theme is Christmas in July, and Maureen will be Chair. So please assist Maureen in completing roles, and enjoy another fun-filled evening.

Best wishes,
