Another beautiful warm evening that saw a very good turnout of members and guests. We welcomed our first-time guests Marilyn and Brian, and our returning guest Nimmie. Sanjay, Division J Governor, also stayed for the first half of the meeting; we thank you all for visiting Tillicum and for your complimentary comments!
James, who has visited the club several times and handed in his application form, officially joined this evening. Thank you James; we welcome you Tillicum Toastmasters and will help you in your Toastmaster experience!
Christmas in July was the evening’s theme with Maureen as Chair. A great theme, very timely, and the members and guests had poignant comments on their wishes for Christmas – we should treat every day as if it were Christmas in terms of caring, sharing and giving.
Chris W. was our Grammarian with such an appropriate word of the day to quell the high temperatures: Glacial (adj.). meaning having a low or abnormal temperature. Example: "As we sat around the Toastmasters’ table in the sweltering heat of July, more than a few of us were dreaming about the glacial temperatures of the past Christmas season”. Well used throughout the evening, Glacial proved a favourite with this audience!
Maurice, as our Table Topics Master, offered five scenarios and both Karen (one of our newest members) and Brian G. tied for the Best Table Topics Speaker Award.
Our two program speakers were Ken, with his 7th project in the CTM manual, and Mary, delivering a speech from the Special Occasion Speeches manual; both very good speakers. Harvey, for his evaluation of Ken’s speech and Maurice, for his evaluation of Mary’s speech, both tied for the Best Evaluator Award. Mary won the Best Speaker Award. Congratulations to all winners.
Please join us next Monday, July 31st, for our picnic in Queens Park (near the Bandshell), at 6:30 p.m. Please do advise Antonella of the potluck item you will bring to the picnic.
August 7th is a holiday, so no meeting. Our next meeting is Monday, August 14, when Chris F. is the Chair and the theme is The Hats We Wear!
Look forward to seeing you at Elvis’ show on July 29 (tickets still available; please contact Maureen) and the picnic on July 31st.
Best wishes,
