You wouldn’t have known that we had been away from the club’s meeting room for the past three weeks, because there was such a great turnout as we resumed our meeting schedule!
We welcomed our guests Ann, Tracey and Chima – thank you all for visiting and for your supportive comments. Ann was so supportive, that she joined, and this on her first visit!! Thank you Ann and welcome to Tillicum! We trust you will enjoy your Toastmaster experience and are here to help you on your journey! This now brings our total to four new members since July 1st, and we have achieved another goal towards our objective of continuing being a President’s Distinguished Club!!
Chris, returning from a summer sojourn, was our very amiable Chair, the meeting theme being “The Hats We Wear”. Chris and the members kept to the theme during this most enjoyable evening.
Tom as Grammarian chose the word of the day: Chameleon (n.) meaning changeable or inconstant. Example: “She was such a chameleon that from day to day you never knew which of her personalities would appear.” Used by all attendees, the word of the day proved very popular!

During the business meeting, both Sahra-Lea and Harvey were voted in and inducted into Tillicum Toastmasters. Congratulations to you and we look forward to being a part of your growth in Toastmasters!
Table Topics Master George presented four scenarios ranging from the homelessness situation to what’s next when you quit your job? Maureen won the Best Table Topics Award for her response on time-keeping in strata council meetings.
We had two good program speakers: Ken, delivering project #8 which is Using Visual Aids, and his speech “Decoding Da Vinci”, and Mary, speaking from the Humorously Speaking manual on “Emotional Intelligence”. Two very different projects, with Mary winning the Best Speaker Award and Maureen the Best Evaluator Award for evaluating Ken’s speech.
Maureen, who is Chair of the Fall Conference, spoke on the need for volunteers and is pleased to advise that one of our newest members, Harvey, has kindly offered to present an Educational Session on Evaluating, based on his proven model. This is great news and Harvey will make a wonderful and informative addition to the Education Sessions, to be held on Saturday, November 18, 2006 – all the more reason to attend the Conference!
Next week’s meeting should be different! “Topsy Turvy Day – If I Won the Lottery!” – won’t be a meeting in reverse, but will be quite interesting. Maurice is our most capable Chair, so please help him as he calls on you to fill roles.
See you on August 21st!
Best wishes,
