Meeting of Monday, August 21, 2006

It seems that the better the weather the bigger the turnout!! Our meeting this evening certainly lived up to this axiom, and we had a great crowd of members and guests. We welcomed our first-time guest Kohei, and returning guests Collette, Xi (She) and Brian. Glad you could join us and thanks for your comments!

Maurice as our very humorous and competent Chair led the meeting to the theme "If I won the Lottery! " Of course, this was well accepted with excellent responses. The topsy turvy nature of this meeting meant that the program speakers appeared in the first half of the meeting before the break, and Table Topics in the second half.

Susan stepped into the role of Grammarian and chose the word of the day: Auspicious (adj.) meaning favourable, favouring success. Example: “With the sun shining brightly it was an auspicious day for a picnic.”

This night was auspicious in that our two program speakers who are new members gave their Ice Breaker (1st) speech from the Communication and Leadership manual. Great work Julie and Karen both of whom spoke with ease and confidence; traits not normally found in Ice Breakers, and they provided us with a sense of things to come!! We look forward to following your journey through a variety of projects and wish you continued success! Congratulations to Karen who won the Best Speaker Award.

The second half saw Candace as Table Topics Master, a role she really enjoys! True to form, Candace asked five members, including two new ones, differing scenarios relating to lotteries, with some very humorous results! Congratulations to Antonella who very clearly advised us how to fight off the attention and in so doing won the Best Table Topics Award, and to Harvey who won the Best Evaluator Award for his
evaluation of Table Topics.

Next Monday, August 28th, Grace is Chair, so please help her fill roles for the theme of Fairytales!

See you on the 28th!
Best wishes,
