Meeting of Monday, February 19, 2007

This was another wonderful evening with a great turnout of members and guests, including our first-time guests Teri, Virginia and Gina. Thanks for visiting and for your flattering comments! Teri has recently moved to New Westminster and wanted to visit Tillicum, as she is already a toastmaster, having been a member at Burnaby Mountain and in Sarnia, Ontario. Welcome to New Westminster and glad you enjoyed your visit!

Tom was our most capable and amiable Chair this evening, the theme being: When we were Kids. What a wonderful topic, and we all contributed to the fun of this evening! Nice job of being Chair, Toastmaster and rounding it off with a Closing Thought! Well done Tom!

Anita, as our Grammarian, chose Urchin as the most appropriate word of the day. Meaning: an appealingly mischievous person, a mischievous, often poor and raggedly-clothed youngster. Example: “We could never resist the little urchin’s pleas for candy.” Very well used during the evening, Urchin founds it way into most people’s vocabulary!

Following her Education Session, Susan also donned the hat of Table Topics Master and presented five wonderful scenarios for interpretation by members. Ranging from First Camping Trip, Defeating the Bogie Man, First Haircut, to a Broken Leg, the members certainly rose to the occasion. However, It was Carol, when called upon to speak about a Special Halloween, who won Best Table Topics Award for addressing all the above scenarios in her colorful delivery! Congratulations Carol!

Following the intermission, Tom as Toastmaster introduced three program speakers: Tracey and Lourdes both delivering their Ice Breaker and Rod his 2nd speech. For such new Toastmasters you were all so well prepared and gave such entertaining presentations! Well done all of you, especially Tracey who won the Best Speaker Award and Maurice, who evaluated Tracey’s speech and took home the Best Evaluator Award!

Nine of us will be enjoying the return of Elvis to the Riverboat Casino. If you are free on Saturday, March 3, please do visit with us and enjoy another great evening’s entertainment! Contact Maureen for more information and Thank ya very much!!

Really looking forward to next Monday’s meeting, the theme being The Oscars: any surprises?? Don’t forget to tune into the Oscars on Sunday, February 25 to be well prepared for the following night’s academy performance! Maureen will be Chair, so please assist her in fulfilling roles to make this yet another memorable evening!

See you on February 26th!
Best wishes,
