A dark and foggy night did not prevent yet another great turnout of members to this meeting, a meeting in which we welcomed our first time guest Lourdes. Thank you so much for visiting, and, in a complete surprise to everyone, you joined Tillicum during the intermission!! Thank you so much for making such a fast decision to join the club – you presented your completed application form and payment before the end of the meeting!
Thank you Lourdes, we welcome you to Tillicum Toastmasters and are committed to helping you in your Toastmaster experience!
Our seasoned Toastmaster, Margot, chaired the meeting, the theme of which was the age old adage: “It ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings!” Such a theme, and so well researched by Margot, who interspersed the meeting with the trivia she discovered on this saying; well done Margot on such a professional and well-chaired meeting!
Anne, one of our newer members, rose to the occasion yet again so admirably, this time in her role as Grammarian. A beautiful word of the day: Scintilla (n.), meaning “a tiny trace or amount” with the example “a lack of evidence provided a scintilla of doubt”, prompted many members to include the word of the day in the round table introductions and throughout the evening! Great job Anne, and kudos on being such a fiscal Grammarian!
Carol as Table Topics Master so humorously kept to the meeting’s theme as she called on five “victims” and presented scenarios of varying shapes and sizes. It was Susan, with her rendition of Little Red Riding Hood, who animatedly conveyed her impromptu speaking, winning the Best Table Topics Award! Well done to all contestants who participated in this very varied and entertaining scenario.
We had three program speakers this evening: Lily and Albert both delivering their 2nd speeches, and Lutz speaking from the Advanced Manual “Speaking in Praise”. An eloquent and poignant speech dedicated to his mother won Lutz the Best Speaker Award and Maurice the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Lutz’s speech. From one spectrum to the other, well done to all program speakers and congratulations to all winners!
"Accent Night" is our theme for next Monday, February 12. Rosemary will chair the meeting, so please help her as she fills roles for the evening.
