Meeting of Monday, May 14, 2007

Another full house tonight and we welcomed our first-time guest Shirlee and returning guests Abby and Kevin. Thanks for visiting and glad you enjoyed the evening! Judith, who visited us for the first time on May 7, completed her application form and payment, and joined Tillicum. Congratulations Judith and welcome to Tillicum. We look forward to helping you in your Toastmaster experience!

Carol was the humorous and able Chair of the evening, the theme being Rock ‘n‘ Roll, so a great topic throughout the evening!

Brad, in his first-time role as Grammarian, did an excellent job, keeping count of our failings and praised us for using the word of the day: Segue, meaning in music, to make a transition directly from one section to another, and, to move smoothly and unhesitatingly from one state, condition, situation, or element to another. Example: “After an ear-numbing introduction the band segued to a melodic guitar solo.” Well used, segue found its way into the evening’s vocabulary.

Rosemary, in a welcome return following sickness, chaired an education session towards her ATM G, and gave us an opportunity to express our thoughts on whether answers were true, false or “?” implied. Great job Rosemary, and good to see you again!

Michelle, in her first-time role as Table Topics Master, was also masterful in creating four scenarios all with a rock ‘n’ roll theme and it was Lydia who won the Best Table Topics Award for "persuading her mother to let her see an Elvis concert!!"

We had three program speakers: Rod (project 3), Albert (project 7) and Tom (ATM S), who provided us with excellent deliveries when based on their expertise. Tom won the Best Speaker Award and Lutz the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Rod’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!

Moon over Buffalo begins on Thursday, May 17; please advise Maureen of the dates you are available to see this humorous production.

Monday, May 21 is the Victoria Day holiday, so we will not meet. Look forward to seeing you again on Monday May 28, when Brian will be the Chair, and the theme is Masks. Sounds interesting, so please assist Brian when he calls on you to fill roles.

Enjoy the Victoria Day weekend and see you on May 28,
Best wishes,
